#stephen fry #jim dale #Harry Potter #i'm going to bed but i'll wake up to your lovely thoughts!
The American books on tape most definitely do count, because Jim Dale is the best.

mmmm debate time!

Nov 30, 20111 note
that's why i love internet! but i really wish i had strong potterheads near me, my sister is starting to dislike harry potter because she can't stand being near me when i start to see harry potter in everything, she was a bigger potterhead than i am D:

oh no!!!! =/

In my head I say "Ashy-O". But I did play the GOF game, and other ones. And I did watch the movies and read the books. And yet, I still say "Ashy-O" xD

hahaha well whatever works for you.

i’m sticking to my axio!

Nov 30, 2011
Or maybe we can just watch the movies ;) I doubt that Jo would have allowed the actors to mispronounce any of her created words onscreen. Just saying.

i accept any excuse to watch the movies repeatedly…..

Nov 30, 20112 notes
At some point, I thought I was the only one who read it as Axio, hahaha, cool :)

you’re not alone!!!

Nov 30, 2011
The American books on tape don't count =P

Yeah, they def do not count. Not at all.

Nov 30, 2011
You and me both. Which is why I think the books are so much better.

agreed x 7.

Nov 30, 2011
to end the debate, someone just needs to write jo and ask her. she's the writer. her word is law.

yes. let’s do that. Open Letter to JK Rowling From Tumblr.

Nov 30, 2011
Your blogs great, I just want to reblog everything :p You should watch A Very Potter Musical on youtube. You'd love it, its hysterical hahah

i have!!!! i love it as well!!! so funny!!!

Nov 30, 2011
yes, they can't stand me anymore lol

aww come here! we can stand you!

Nov 30, 2011
I used to say axio because spanish is my first language and in spanish double c is pronounced like an x :P

mine too!!!! ugh, multilingual problems.

Nov 30, 20114 notes
AXIO. That is all.

Thank you! I’m on the Axio team.

Nov 30, 20111 note
I think I'm a tad late adding my input on the whole "Accio" thing, but I'll tell you anyway. I have a friend who was an extra in the Harry Potter movies. (His name's Sam Gaukroger) and he's really good friends with Daniel Radcliffe. He came and talked with my Quidditch club about his experiences on set and one of the things he said was that Dan said that Jo Rowling told him that it was pronounced "ack-key-oh" with the K, not with the X like the video games or "ah-see-oh" (which is what I said)

achpidvoefhbvuefvybierb LUCKY. i appreciate the insight!!

Nov 30, 20113 notes
I think so!! FINALLY. someone who feels the same way as I do when it comes to the movies and books.... All of my friends think that the movies were acurate.

i get realllllllly hung up on the little details!

Nov 30, 20113 notes
idk how reliable the google translate pronouncer thing is, but it pronounces accio (as a latin word) as A-cho, with a short a sound.

yeah…not reliable haha.

Nov 30, 20111 note
wait so ack-ee-oh? or axe-ee-oh? or ah-see-oh? shmankshou :)

officially, ack-ee-oh.

for me, AXIO

Nov 30, 2011
In the Amerian books on tape it was pronounced ah-see-oh
Nov 30, 2011
I'm slightly insulted that someone thought I didn't know Italian came from Latin.. :( I love languages, and a major part of languages is that they change and evolve. ACKIO, AXIO, ASHEEO, ACHIO. Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to. <3 you all.

hahah people get pretty passionate out here

Nov 30, 20111 note
tell me about it, i'm constantly teased for being a potterhead but in the end they're always like "hey, i saw something yesterday that reminds me of you" "harry potter?" "yeah" or when they ask me if i was the one playing on the college's pianos because they heard hedwig's theme :)

awwww well then you’re the official harry potter girl at home

Nov 30, 20112 notes
Oh my gosh! Can we be best friends?

GASP. can we???

On the topic about the Italian and Latin thing, Italian was made from Latin along with many other Languages. On the topic about Accio, ( another 3rd -io verb) the sound, -cc- makes a hard X sound and -io makes a long o sound. Just so you know. If you ever have a question about latin the just drop it in my ask I will see if I know it :)

everyone, this is the person to ask about Accio. she’s got it down!

Nov 30, 20111 note
sorry for answering you late, you asked me where do i live cause we don't celebrate halloween... i'm from Brazil :)

oh no!!! i mean awesome that you live in Brazil but awful that there’s no Halloween! =D

Nov 30, 2011
I always pronounced it like "AK-CIO" which is pretty much as the X sound but oh well! I speak portuguese, which also came from the latin so... I hope that helps on the argument, though! :)

yes!!! i love us! we really spent an hour talking about latin pronunciations….sigh.

Haha, thanks. (: I KNOW! I can't wait in like 20 years when I get older so I can remake the damn movies. I will use the books as the script and it will be SO perfect. All the potterheads will love it, even though each movie will be like 6 hours long. But still.. Perfection.

PFTTT no such thing as too long…BBC does it ALL THE TIME.

Let’s get BBC to bankroll this production……

In the GOF video game on PS2 the characters shout Axio, rather than Accio.

HA! THERE YOU GO!

Warner Bros. needs to get their life together.

Nov 30, 2011
The person talking about how close Italian and Latin are wasn't saying that they were the same, I think. It seemed like they meant that it was just the closest.

well it has to be close, doesn’t it….what with the development of the lingua franca in italy.

Nov 30, 2011
My friend, who has taken Latin for four years, assures me that the correct pronunciation of Accio is that which is used in the fourth movie, with a hard c.

Yeah, AKKIO wins this.

I don’t like it though -__-

Nov 30, 2011
You are precious! I've always said AXIO, and I thought the movies were stupid when they said ACKIO.. But really, the movies screwed up so much of the books that it just doesn't even phase me anymore.

Yeah, they don’t care! They needed a Potterhead Consultant on staff to correct them!

And you’re quite precious yourself!!!

We’re sitting here discussing the Latin and Italian pronunciations of a spell…..

I always pronounced it Ah-kee-oh, like they did in A very potter musical. "ACCIO GUITAR!"
Nov 30, 2011
Yes, Italian is based on Latin like someone said, but it changed the pronunciation. Do not say it like an X. Say it like a K, if you want the real pronunciation.

I understand. I get it. Thanks for letting me know!

I’m gonna continue with the X though. My psyche can’t take any more changes.

image

Also, testament to this fandom!!! We’re so scholarly…

Nov 30, 2011
I always said "Ah-see-oh"...whoops.

pft, it seems we’re all wrong. meh!

Nov 30, 2011
Let me clear this up. In real Latin, Cs sound like Ks. In Italian and the modern, Italian Latin, they're different-soft. The real, Latin pronunciation is Ack-ee-oh. I take Latin, you can trust this to be right.

well there you go. definitive answer. thanks!!

i’m saying AXIO, though.

it feels so good to be wrong.

Nov 30, 20115 notes
Not double C's I'm pretty sure it makes at X sound. Latin is probs like the italian rule. Latin is way more like Italian than English..

hmm well it seems that prettythingsandmusings has the facts on this….

Nov 30, 2011
You're fucking adorable. I'm not gonna lie, if you were around me on a daily basis I would try and woo you. Most likely letting you know my knowledge on Harry Potter and hoping you would just instantly fall in love with me. Also, I first listened to the audiobooks too. And my question is, did you (along with I) read the books, and hear the guys voice in your head reading them for you?

i imagined he was cuddled up next to me whispering JK’s words in my eager ears.

and you’re making me blush!!

image

Nov 30, 2011
I always said Ack-e-o. That's what I always thought, from the first book. It really bothers me how they switch pronunciations throughout the films. :/

yes this needs to turn into a discussion about how the movies hate us and aren’t paying attention to the little things….

Nov 30, 20112 notes
The anon talking about how two C's are pronounced together in Italian is probably on the right track. Most of the spells (if not all) are Latin based, just like the Italian language.

yes yes but in latin the C’s are Ks, or so i’m told??

Nov 30, 20111 note
AXIO FOR LIFE.

FO SHIZZLE.

pages > pdf > whatever other format you want

Nov 30, 2011
Whoops, I mean't to type "ASH-ee-oh".

that’s worse, gurlfriend. hahahah

Nov 30, 2011
(Aw, I actually laughed really hard at Cpt. Jack)

image

Nov 30, 20111 note
I always pronounces it ASS-ee-oh. But then again, I pronounced heir, higher...

aww boo boo hahahah

Nov 30, 2011
me and my sister always thought it was like ACH-EE-O. like in italian when theres two C's together. i like the X sound too though! i really think anything but the CK sound sounds good.

image

Nov 30, 20113 notes
haha you're not, I say AXIO too

image

Nov 30, 2011
I propose we wait until the audio books from Jo come out next year. That should have the proper pronunciations. I myself pronounce it aKio, but that might just be from the movies. Idk.

good plan, good plan. i might just keep saying AXIO bc it’s going to hurt my brain to stop.
